The Cowboys made some huge moves this season in both the draft and free agency. Shedding some aging players, they decided to go for more quality-type players that have made big impacts in the past. New head coach Mike McCarthy is walking into a beautiful situation in his first season in Dallas.
Most people would be doing somersaults if they got paid as much as Dak Prescott was this season. However, these players have a different sense of the word “business” and know their value. Dak played for four seasons under his first contract, making a little more than $3.5 million in total; now, he’ll be making a little under $31.5 million this season under the franchise tag.
That long-term contract could be coming after this season, considering the Cowboys have one of the best collections of talent in the team’s history. Dallas will always be a team that runs the ball first but we should also see a lot more three-WR sets and create big plays down the field.
Philadelphia Eagles

There are some teams that know exactly what they are doing in the draft – and then there are the Eagles. This squad was supposed to make life easier for QB Carson Wentz, but instead gave him another reason to look over his shoulder. Philly used a second-round pick on QB Jalen Hurts when another receiver could have been. WR Justin Jefferson was right there for the taking at No. 21 in the first round of the draft but the Eagles went with a much smaller (but speedier) Jalen Reagor from TCU.
Philly might have found a star in RB Miles Sanders, who will likely take some touches away from Boston Scott and Corey Clement. As usual, the Eagles will have a loaded RB depth chart, so if anything happens to Sanders, it’ll be the all-too-familiar “next man up” mentality.
On defense, Philly lost some key pieces that could very well keep it from winning the NFC East. The signing of CB Darius Slay was fine, but he won’t be a big difference-maker if the Eagles can’t rush the passer.
New York Giants

The Giants could be one of the most interesting teams in football this season. First-time head coach Joe Judge has a large task ahead of him in finding a way for QB Daniel Jones and RB Saquon Barkley a lethal 1-2 punch on offense. New York did get one of the best offensive linemen, Andrew Thomas, in the draft so perhaps this is the start of something great here for the team.
Also in the draft, the Giants had S Xavier McKinney fall to them in the second round. Over the last few seasons, New York has gotten away from that hard-nosed defensive ball that made the team successful for so long. The Giants may not be able to stop anyone on defense, but the offense should finally have some fun.
Washington Redskins

There is absolutely no way in hell that the Redskins are going to compete in this division. Head coach Ron Rivera has a monstrous task in his first season as the team’s head coach, not really knowing where the production will come from. Luckily, the team drafted an Ohio State superstar in the first round for the second year in a row – this time it was EDGE Chase Young. Hopefully, he and QB Dwayne Haskins can lead this team to big things on each side of the ball somewhere down the road.
The Redskins season should be all about building something meaningful for the future. Right now, they just don’t have the horses to compete with most in the league – again.
