Dallas Cowboys (-3) at Chicago Bears – Total: 43
Thursday, December 5, 2019 – 8:20 p.m. EST
Betting Pick: Bears ML (+125)
A pair of 6-6 teams from the NFC do battle on Thursday Night Football, as the Dallas Cowboys hit the road to face the Chicago Bears. While both teams own the same record, it looks like only the Cowboys have a real shot of making the playoffs.
However, one of our top NFL football picks is for the Bears to win this game outright on the road. Let’s look at the sports betting facts to see why we’re rolling with the underdog.
Betting Line Thursday Night Football: Cowboys at Bears
There’s not much faith on our side, with nearly 80% of public bets and all money wagered in favor of the Cowboys. It’s not surprising, though, considering they have one of the largest fanbases and Thursday football betting usually trends toward the favorite.
However, many people are sleeping on the Bears, who have won three of their last four games. And the Bears aren’t necessarily done either. Although, they do need some help to make the playoffs.
Cowboys
Betting Form
The whispers
for head coach Jason Garrett getting fired are growing louder as the losses add
up. After winning their first three games, the Cowboys have now lost six of the
last nine.
Quarterback Dak Prescott has thrown for at least 355 yards in three of the last four games, but only of those have amounted to a Cowboys win. Against the Bills on Thanksgiving Day, that ferocious pass rush created some issues for Prescott. And the Bears can do the same thing, as they are tied for second in sacks (50) this season. Look for that nasty defense to get creative in how they apply pressure to the NFL’s leader in passing yardage.
Running back Ezekiel Elliott only needs 10 rushing yards to reach 1,000 for the season. However, he’ll have to do it against a defense that is one of eight to allow an average of under 100 yards per game. Wide receiver Amari Cooper is also close to 1,000 receiving yards on the season, needing 29 more to hit that mark. He took a nasty hit last week that flipped him over but won’t be on the injury report for this game.
Bears
Betting Form
If the Bears are going to get one of those Wild Card spots, they’ll certainly earn it. This is the team with the toughest remaining schedule in the NFL, with matchups at home against the Cowboys and Chiefs and road matchups against the Packers and Vikings.
Quarterback Mitch Trubisky struggled mightily at the onset of the season. However, he’s pumped in five total touchdowns for the Bears over the last two weeks.
For all of you fantasy football fans, Trubisky also has the fifth-most fantasy points of any QB over that span. A lot of that can be attributed to his renewed sense of rhythm with wide receivers Allen Robinson and Anthony Miller. The Bears coaches are finally starting to breathe a sigh of relief.
This will be
a great test for the Bears defense, which is allowing the seventh-fewest total
yards per game (319.7). Not to mention, they’re trending in the right
direction, allowing only 17.2 points per game over the last six. The Bears’ run
defense is allowing 3.7 yards per carry, which ranks third-best in the NFL.
Thursday Night Football Week 14 Pick: Bears ML (+125)
It’s certainly not going to be one of the popular NFL picks, but when has that ever stopped us before? Looking at the Cowboys six wins this season, none of have come against teams at .500 or better.
In theory, the Cowboys could afford another loss since they have a one-game lead and the tiebreaker over the Eagles in the NFC East.
On the other hand, this is desperation time for the Bears, and we expect them to play their hearts out in this Thursday night football game.
