Betting Pick: Texans +6.5 | Bet with Borgata Now | Risk Free Bet up to $300
Week 1 of the NFL season always has two games to take us out in style – the first game of the doubleheader is between the Texans and Saints. This will be the first time New Orleans takes the field since last season’s blown-call in the NFC Championship that prohibited them from reaching the Super Bowl. It’ll be interesting to see how they rebound from that debacle, and if it could possibly affect them in a negative way.
Odds Analysis: Texans at Saints
The Saints had a -7 line on this game all throughout the offseason until recently when it came down to -6.5 over the last day or so. In fact, we could even see this line move back up to -7 by the time kickoff rolls around, considering more bets could be coming in on the Saints.
Texans Betting Form
There are plenty of expectations for the Texans in 2019, and most of it comes from the offensive side of the ball. Houston made some exciting moves right before the regular season started, getting offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil and wide receiver Kenny Stills from Miami. That move for Tunsil, in particular, was a major upgrade for an O-line that allowed quarterback Deshaun Watson to get sacked over 60 times last season.
Patriots Betting Form
It goes without saying the Saints get off to slow starts, not having won a Week-1 game since 2013. For whatever reason, it’s usually the defense that prohibits them from victory, and they’ll have another heavy test on their hands in this one. New Orleans will be without two of its best interior pass rushers, Sheldon Rankins (injury) and David Onyematta (suspension).
Not to mention, shrugging off last season’s heartbreaking defeat in the NFC Championship could be a lot harder than anticipated. Luckily, quarterback Drew Brees, running back Alvin Kamara and wide receiver Michael Thomas are still around to put points on the scoreboard. It’s not like the Saints will get blown out, but these guys always have a chance to be in games with that trio of talent moving the ball.

Betting Pick: Texans (+6.5): buy or wait for +7
If you’re wondering why the defense wasn’t mentioned much in the preview, that’s because it probably won’t matter too much in the actual game. Bettors could go with the over here, but the safer route is taking the Texans with the points. We outlined the history of slow starts for the Saints, and this go-round shouldn’t be much different.
