This will be the first game back home for the Maple Leafs after a seven-game road trip. Typically, teams in this position have said it almost feels like an extension of the road trip. Although the Leafs had the last three days off, they still haven’t been playing their best hockey of late. Toronto is 3-2 over the last five games, but two of those wins came by a single goal, including one in a shootout.
The Ducks have won their last two games, scoring five goals in each victory. Those wins came against the Lightning and Bruins, two of the NHL’s better teams, so perhaps there’s enough brewing on the horizon for the Ducks to keep this a tight game. Looking at the betting landscape, the Maple Leafs are getting 76% of the bets while the Ducks are getting 80% of the money.
San Jose Sharks at Washington Capitals
NHL Pick: Capitals -1.5 (+120)
The Sharks can’t seem to get out of their way of late, losing four of their last five games. The latest was a 7-1 drubbing by the two-time defending champions at home before hitting the road to kick off this four-game East Coast trip. Not exactly the type of momentum you want to be flying across the country with.
The Capitals are in a good spot to pounce here, despite struggling themselves lately. However, they did beat the Sharks 4-0 in the earlier meeting between the teams. I think we can get away with the puck line, considering the Caps are massive -205 favorites tonight.
Boston Bruins at Colorado Avalanche
NHL Pick: Bruins ML (+150)
In the standalone game to end the night, the Bruins head into the Rocky Mountains for a showdown with the Avalanche, who have the best record in the West. With that being said, I think Boston can pull the upset tonight.
Although the Avalanche has won seven straight games, and 12 of the last 13, we are seeing some signs of slowing down. In its last two games, Colorado has barely squeaked by Chicago and Montreal, lending some optimism in Boston’s favor tonight.
