With the NHL schedule being dismantled by the Omicron variant of COVID-19, we have only had a handful of games each night. However, tonight is jam-packed with 11 matchups across the board!
In this article, I will provide my top three hockey picks tonight to make a maximum profit on Thursday, January 6, 2022. Those games are: San Jose Sharks at Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers & New York Rangers at Vegas Golden Knights.
Our Favorite NHL Picks Today (1/6/22)
San Jose Sharks at Buffalo Sabres
NHL Pick: Sabres (+110)
There is a huge differential of bets placed to money spent in this matchup – Sharks are getting 80% of the bets while the Sabres are getting 65% of the money. Buffalo will be happy to have its team back home, considering there’s only been one home game since mid-December.
The Sabres are getting the Sharks at the right time, as the Sharks have allowed 14 goals over their last two games. It has certainly not been a pretty season for Buffalo, but a win to ring in the new year will be pretty sweet for the home faithful. The Sabres should be well-rested here, not playing a game since the first day of the new year.
Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers
NHL Pick: Penguins -1.5 (+110)
Even though the Penguins played a game last night, they are huge favorites tonight against their cross-state rivals. Pittsburgh put together a nice comeback win en route to continuing their nine-game winning streak. How sweet would it be for the Pens to get #10 against their rivals?
Tonight will be the first game back home after a long West-Coast road trip for the Flyers. Teams that endure that type of hardship tend to come out flat in that first game back home, and I believe that’s what we’re seeing in the inflated moneyline number.
New York Rangers at Vegas Golden Knights
NHL Pick: Golden Knights ML (-140)
This should be a fun game out West tonight between the Golden Knights and Rangers. We’re already seeing a ton of bets and money come in on the Rangers, but I have to imagine that’s literally everyone making the trip from New York to Vegas putting their money on their team. And they should, as the Rangers have been one of the hotter teams in the NHL. However, they’ll be running into one of those other hot teams themselves.
Despite not having some key players in their last two games, the Golden Knights have produced two losses – but only by one goal apiece. The number here is telling me that they have quite a bit of optimism in winning this time around.
