Oakland Athletics at New York Yankees (-190)
Time: 1:05 p.m. EST
Starting Pitchers
OAK: Homer Bailey – R (12-8, 5.04 ERA/1.39 WHIP)
NYY: Domingo German – R (17-3, 4.03 ERA/1.14 WHIP)
The Yankees’ moneyline rose from -150 to -190 early on today. While the A’s have won all four meetings in the season series, it’s time for the tide to turn.
Athletics Betting Form
Oakland plays today’s game bright and early at 1 p.m., which it hasn’t done too often this season. It’s an interesting change for a West coast team to be playing this early – especially in New York City. We’re really not stretching our luck by saying the A’s could be tired and sluggish in this one.
Yankees Betting Form
As for the actual baseball standpoint, Domingo German has a dazzling 8-1 record and 2.24 ERA in 10 appearances (nine starts) at Yankee Stadium this season. Today’s matchup against the A’s isn’t an easy one, but he should be able to work his repertoire of pitches into a nice rhythm and keep them off balance.
The Yanks are 8-1 when German faces teams with a winning record.
Look for the offense to get going today against Homer Bailey, who is known to have a bad outing every now and again. The Yankees are 34-11 when an opposing right-handed pitcher is on the mound and 16-3 home games after a loss.
Betting Pick: Yankees (1.5-run line: -108)
Bettors can lay about half of the money by taking the Yankees on the 1.5-run line. This is a team that finally has to turn it up against the A’s – not many teams have dominated the Yanks this season. Enough is enough!
New York Mets (-115) at Philadelphia Phillies
Time: 4:05 p.m. EST
Starting Pitchers
NYM: Steven Matz – L (8-8, 4.06 ERA/1.30 WHIP)
PHI: Jason Vargas – L (6-6, 4.09 ERA/1.27 WHIP)
The Mets got a sizeable moneyline increase overnight, going as slight underdogs to now being the favorites. This could be due to the late offensive-tear the Mets went on last night and the history they have here at Citizens Bank Park.
Mets Betting Form
It’s unreal how much the Mets love hitting in Philadelphia. After a period of inactivity all week, the offense finally going at a ballpark they’re quite familiar with.
Speaking of familiarity, the Mets will face their former teammate, Jason Vargas. The veteran lefty has mostly done well, allowing two runs or fewer in three of his five outings. However, the Mets know him well and there’s plenty of right-handed bats that can make life difficult on Vargas.
Phillies Betting Form
The Phils also know Steven Matz well. After all, they’ve tagged him for 20 hits and 16 runs (14 earned) in a span of 11 innings this season – at Philadelphia, it’s been even worse. At Citizens Bank Park, Matz has allowed 14 hits (five homers) and 15 runs (13 earned) over a span of 4 1/3 innings. A lot of damage on his 2-7 road record and 6.28 ERA can be attributed to those performances.
Betting Pick: Over 9.5
We’ve got two offenses that are familiar with the starting pitchers and that’ll get us off to the races on going over this total.
Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks
Time: 7:05 p.m. EST
Starting Pitchers
LAD: Clayton Kershaw – L (13-3, 2.76 ERA/1.00 WHIP)
ARZ: Robbie Ray – L (11-7, 3.86 ERA/
The Dodgers’ moneyline and the game total each hasn’t made much movement since the open. Bettors maybe confused as to which Dodgers team they’ll be getting – the team with one of the best records in MLB, or the one that has five losses over the last eight games.
Moneyline – Athletics @ Yankees (-140)
There hasn’t been much line movement since the open, but it seems like this moneyline is in the right spot. When the Yankees traveled to Oakland last week, they were either small favorites or small underdogs. Now that they’re at home, it makes plenty of sense that they’ve elevated to sizeable favorites in this matchup.
Dodgers Betting Form
It’s usually a good day when you’ve got Clayton Kershaw on the mound, but things have gotten awkward lately. After allowing a total of two homers since the start of July, the lefty has now allowed six of them over his last 13 innings of work – all solo shots. Kershaw has only faced Arizona once this season, taking the no-decision while allowing four runs over six innings.
D-backs Betting Form
Robbie Ray has a good history against the Dodgers but most of those numbers don’t have to do with this season – he’s 7-6 lifetime with a 3.17 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 20 starts. The Dodgers’ offense has gotten back to normal and they should be able to string enough runs together to make this is a difficult time.
Betting Pick: Dodgers -145
It’s not often that you get this type of value on the Dodgers with Kershaw on the mound. If you’re a believe in things coming back around to the norm, this is a bet for you.
