We’re almost through the first month of the MLB season, and even though it’s still fairly early, we’ve seen enough of some of these teams to figure out what they’re likely to be like throughout the season. For example, the Cincinnati Reds weren’t expected to compete for the NL Central at the start of the season, and they’ve completely collapsed in the first month of the year with a 3-16 start, even below Pittsburgh Pirate levels of ineptitude. The Reds have been close to an auto-fade this season, and if you’d bet $10 on them to win each time out, even their upsets haven’t helped; you’d have lost $114.10. It’s pretty clear that if you’re betting Cincinnati in 2022, you need a darn good reason to do it.
On the other hand, there are a few teams who are struggling but still have time to turn things around. The Chicago White Sox, for example, have stumbled out of the gate to a 7-11 beginning. Yet there’s plenty of talent on the White Sox’s roster, and it’s a very long season between the end of April and October. There’s no guarantee that Chicago will turn things around, but now might be the time to jump on the White Sox if you see a good matchup, because one of two things are true. Either the White Sox aren’t going to turn it around and will be the year’s biggest disappointment, or the price on them will never get better.
With that in mind, here are the odds and lines for April 29.

Weekend series get started today, so there’s plenty of top options available to place your bets this evening. Here are my best bets for April 29.
MLB Best Bet April 29: Seattle Mariners-Miami Marlins Under 7.5 Runs (-110), 6:40 p.m. EST, available at BetMGM
The Marlins didn’t do much on offense against the Washington Nationals on Thursday, but their pitching made sure that they’d done enough to emerge with a 3-2 victory. Now they’re up against the Seattle Mariners, who are also a defensive-minded side. Both of these teams rank in the top six in the Majors in ERA, with the Mariners checking in at 3.00 and the Marlins at 3.06, and neither hit all that well in its past two contests. Over their past two games, the Marlins won twice by scoring five runs, while the Mariners lost twice and plated a mere three runs.
Throw in that neither team is hitting the ball very well (Seattle .235, Miami .232), and there’s plenty of reason to expect a low-scoring contest in this matchup.
MLB Best Bet April 29: Colorado Rockies ML (-120) vs. Cincinnati Reds, 8:40 p.m. EST, available at BetMGM
Don’t look too deeply into the Rockies getting hammered four times in Philadelphia. Colorado was a terrible road team last season, but has been an excellent home bet. The Rockies dominated last season at Coors Field and are getting a great price against an awful Cincinnati squad that isn’t a good team no matter where it plays. This seems like a perfect spot to get right for the Rockies, and you’re not likely to see a price like this on Colorado at home for a while.
MLB Best Bet April 29: San Francisco Giants -1.5 (-105) vs. Washington Nationals, 10:15 p.m. EST, available at BetMGM
The Nationals have now lost eight in a row after getting swept by the Marlins, and I doubt things are going to get any better heading across the country to play the Giants. San Francisco already squashed Washington three times on the road, winning all three games by two runs or more, and with the Nationals coming off a sweep, I expect more of the same.
Washington doesn’t have much in the way of pitching, giving up a Majors-worst 110 runs on the year, while San Francisco gets incredible work from its bullpen. The Giants’ relievers have an ERA of 1.54, so if a team gets behind after six innings, the game is all but over. With the Nationals’ rotation the weakest part of a bad pitching staff, this reads like a rout for the Giants.
