One of the most frustrating parts of betting on baseball is the weather. A rain delay or rainout can wipe out a good play before we even get the chance to see if it cashes. That was the case yesterday, as three games were postponed and rescheduled due to inclement weather.
However, out of that misfortune can come opportunity, as two of those contests — the Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Washington Nationals and the San Francisco Giants vs. New York Mets — were rescheduled as doubleheaders for today. That can be a good thing for bettors as what happens in the first game of the doubleheader can affect the outcome of the second. This often creates an opportunity with over/under totals and even moneyline bets as most doubleheaders end in a split.
With that in mind, here are the MLB odds, schedule, probables pitchers and predictions for April 19.

MLB Predictions Today and Best Bets
With two doubleheaders on the today’s docket, we’ve got a bit more opportunity to play around with for our best bets of the day. Here are my MLB predictions and best bets for April 19.
MLB Best Bet April 19: Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Washington Nationals First Five Innings Under 4 Runs (+110), 1:10 p.m. EST, available at BetMGM
When Madison Bumgarner takes the mound, the Arizona Diamondbacks usually have a chance to keep things close. The Diamondbacks’ ace is one of the only things about their team that is actually worth watching in 2022, and Bumgarner has pitched like an ace so far, giving up only one earned run in each in his two starts this season. Odds are that he will pitch most of the first five innings of Game 1 of the doubleheader, especially now that the Diamondbacks have 18 innings to worry about today, instead of just nine. Getting five or six out of Bumgarner should allow the Diamondbacks to keep the Washington Nationals’ offense quiet in the early going.
On the other side of the ledger, the Diamondbacks’ bats have basically been toothpicks this season. Arizona ranks last in the Majors in batting average, hitting an anemic .152, and the Diamondbacks are tied with Baltimore for the fewest runs in the bigs with 21. Josiah Gray wasn’t great in giving up four runs to the Mets in his first start, but he bounced back nicely to hold the Braves scoreless through five innings in his second start.
Arizona doesn’t hit anywhere near as well as New York or Atlanta, so I like these two pitchers to put some zeroes on the board in the first five innings. With plus money (+110) on this first five innings under, this is one of my best bets for April 19.
MLB Best Bet April 19: Toronto Blue Jays to Score in the First Inning (+240) vs. Boston Red Sox, 7:05 p.m. EST, available at BetMGM
With George Springer, Bo Bichette and Vlad Guerrero Jr. hitting at the top of the lineup, the Toronto Blue Jays might have the scariest 1-2-3 hitters in the Majors, and they’ve been producing like it. Over the past five games, the Blue Jays have scored in the first inning four times, with the lone exception coming in a shutout against the New York Yankees.
With 10 MPH winds heading toward the Fenway Park outfield, there’s a decent chance one of these big bats can knock one out in the first inning. They’ve also got the right pitching matchup, as Nathan Eovaldi has struggled in the early innings of his two starts this season. He’s given up three first-inning runs in two appearances, allowing two to the Yankees and one to the Tigers. The Blue Jays have the hitters in place to take advantage of his early struggles, and this value at +240 is just too good to pass up.
MLB Best Bet April 19: Cincinnati Reds Team Total Under 2.5 Runs (+110) vs. San Diego Padres, 9:40 p.m. EST, available at BetMGM
The Cincinnati Reds don’t appear to have brought their bats with them on this trip to the West Coast, as they’ve now failed to score more than three runs in five straight games against the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres. Over the past four contests, it’s been even worse; they’ve been held to two runs or fewer in each, and their ineptitude might increase here with Joe Musgrove on the mound.
Betting against Musgrove in April has been a great way to lose money, as the Padres’ pitcher holds a 2.33 career ERA in 104.1 April innings. This year hasn’t been any different, as Musgrove has given up just two runs in 12.2 innings of work. With the Reds struggling to get anything across the plate, Musgrove and the Padres’ bullpen should continue to keep Cinci off the board and under 2.5 runs scored this evening.
