Today marks one of the weirder days on the Major League Baseball schedule, as there’s the oddity of the Oakland Athletics and the Detroit Tigers playing two games in the same park with two different home teams. Baseball always has some odd quirks to its schedule because of the nature of playing 162 games over the course of six months, but any year after a work stoppage always has more than a few.
This one will see a few of these issues pop up, as teams try to get in the week of canceled games wherever they possibly can. In this situation, the Athletics and the Tigers weren’t scheduled to meet more than once, so the only way to make these games up is either to have the Athletics play a “home” game in Detroit’s ballpark, play at a neutral field or wait until the Tigers make a road trip to Seattle, Anaheim or one of the other California teams.
The scheduling issues aren’t what’s important here. What is important is to recognize an oddity when one exists and see if there’s any way to exploit it. With that in mind, here are the odds and lines for May 10.

MLB Best Bets for May 10
The Giants saved the end of the day yesterday with a strong performance against the Rockies, and we’ll try to do better today. Here are my MLB best bets for May 10.
MLB Best Bet May 10: Oakland Athletics ML (-115) vs. Detroit Tigers, 1:10 p.m. EST, available at BetMGM
Sure enough, there’s a bit of an opportunity to ride with the Athletics in Detroit as the nominal home team, as the shift in venue has led the sportsbooks to declare this game an even contest. I don’t believe that’s actually the case here, however, as Frankie Montas has pitched well in four out of his five trips to the mound. Meanwhile, Tarik Skubal’s strong performances have come against Kansas City’s weak bats and Colorado at home, where the Rockies tend to play more like a Double-A team.
Neither team is doing all that much at the plate this season, but that’s especially true for the Tigers, who haven’t plate a run in their past 24 innings. Montas shouldn’t have too many issues against a lineup of that caliber, so I like Oakland’s chances here.
MLB Best Bet May 10: New York Mets -1.5 (-115) vs. Washington Nationals, 7:05 p.m. EST, available at BetMGM
I don’t love taking a team on the road giving 1.5 runs because baseball is such a random game, but I think it makes sense here. Tylor Megill has already shown he can handle the Nationals’ lineup in Washington, and neither Patrick Corbin nor the Nationals’ bullpen is doing much of anything to keep offenses from getting rolling.
The Mets have been a bit inconsistent over the past week, but they’ve also played the Phillies and the Braves, who are the two most talented teams in the NL East besides themselves. Washington is nowhere close to that level of ability, so I’ll back the Mets to win a comfortable one here.
MLB Best Bet May 10: Kansas City Royals-Texas Rangers Under 8 Runs, 8:05 p.m. EST, available at BetMGM
I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop with Martin Perez, as it seems almost impossible for him to keep up an ERA that’s two runs under his usual numbers throughout his career. But I don’t think it’s dropping here, because these teams just do not hit against each other. Kansas City and Texas have seen the under cash in 37 of 54 meetings with seven pushes, and Brad Keller is also throwing pretty well in 2022.
I think this might be an overestimation of the teams’ offenses in the final few innings of this game. I think both starters will do their job well enough to keep the totals low here.
