Game Notes
Globe Life Liftoff
As mentioned in today’s Athletics-Diamondbacks Preview, league offense is finally beginning to take off. With that in mind, it makes sense to act more aggressively with ‘over’ game totals. Thus far, Globe Life Field has been as hitter-friendly as virtually any other MLB venue, propping up run scoring by 22%! The Texas offense isn’t particularly great, but in a game with two mediocre starters, a shootout could materialize quickly.
Betting Picks
TEX +1.5 (-130) and/or Over 9 (-105)
While the Padres clearly remain the superior team on paper, there are enough factors at play (starting pitchers, home field) to keep Texas close.
At the same time, however, Jordan Lyles could be quickly knocked out of the game, and this blowout scenario would render moot the +1. This is where the Over 9 comes into play. If you are more risk-averse, playing both bets would relatively increase your chances of at least some success. Meanwhile, picking one or the other would be the risk-seeking play, as higher scores would make it less likely for the underdog Rangers to cover.
