Welcome back from the NBA All-Star break! Those days off were a needed break to recharge the batteries; now, we’ll get back down to business. Tonight’s slate is a small two-game appetizer, with the Washington Wizards at Memphis Grizzlies & San Antonio Spurs at Dallas Mavericks – the latter will be on NBA TV at 8:30 p.m. EST.
I had a 2-2 night in the final slate before the break, bringing my season-long record to 43-23-2 ATS (65.2%). Let’s stay hot and keep that bankroll thick and plentiful. Here are my two free NBA betting picks for tonight’s slate:
Table of contents
- Washington Wizards at Memphis Grizzlies (-3) – Total: 238
- San Antonio Spurs at Dallas Mavericks (-4.5) – Total: 221.5
Washington Wizards at Memphis Grizzlies (-3) – Total: 238
WSH: 3-2 ATS on extended rest (2+ days)
MEM: 4-2 ATS on extended rest (2+ days)
The Wizards were playing excellent basketball before the break, winning of seven of 10 games. That remarkable duo of Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook continue to play at a high level, but that’s really the extent of the talent. If the Grizzlies can lock down those two, it’ll be a long night for the opposition.
These two teams faced just before the All-Star break, and it wasn’t particularly pretty. Memphis trounced Washington, 125-111, in a game that wasn’t close after the first quarter. Early on this morning (10 am EST), over 90% of the money is on the Grizzlies to cover the spread while the Wizards are getting 56% of the bets. That type of differential is usually quite telling in how this ball game will wind up.
Betting Pick: Grizzlies (-3)
San Antonio Spurs at Dallas Mavericks (-4.5) – Total: 221.5
SA: 6-2 ATS on extended rest (2+ days)
DAL: 3-2 ATS on extended rest (2+ days)
Now that we’re past the All-Star break, the Spurs are finally back to full health after a good portion of the team missed numerous games in the COVID protocol. Not to mention, the team had four straight games canceled for the same reasons. But that’s all over, and it’s time to move on.
There are some very interesting trends that favor San Antonio in this matchup. Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has led the team to a 6-1 ATS as a road underdog this season. In addition, their 6-2 ATS record on extended rest (2+ days) is indicative of being led the right way. On the flip side, Dallas is only 4-10 ATS as a home favorite and 6-11 ATS at home.
While the Mavs were playing much better in the games leading up to the break, I think the 4.5-point is just enough for the Spurs to cover in a rivalry game like this.
Betting Pick: Spurs (+4.5)
