It’s almost time to start NFL training camps, and with it comes the heavy expectations for 32 different head coaches. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought back almost their entire roster, so it’ll take a truly great coaching performance to unseat them as champs.
Looking at the 2021 NFL Coach of the Year Odds, we find the coaches at the top are mostly younger guys. Kevin Stefanski of the Cleveland Browns leads the way at +1300, coming off an impressive run that ended in the Divisional Round. At +1500, we see a bunching of guys like Sean McVay (Los Angeles Rams), Brandon Staley (Los Angeles Chargers), Brian Flores (Miami Dolphins) and Kyle Shanahan (San Francisco 49ers) that are all capable of bringing home the bacon.

In each of Flores’ first two seasons, the Dolphins have improved dramatically and there’s no signs of slowing up. Miami had a solid draft bringing in new talent to second-year QB Tua Tagovialoa with. Of course, some believe that Tagovialoa may not be the long-term answer under center, as he did struggle at times in his rookie year. Luckily, the amount of talent on the roster should otherwise mask some of his Tua’s smaller flaws. The New England Patriots aren’t as much of a threat in the AFC East, so the road to winning the division goes through the Buffalo Bills. At the end of the day, though, just getting to the playoffs should put Flores in a good spot to win this award.
Ron Rivera – Washington Football Team (+2500)
Washington might wind up being the surprise team of the year, and that’s an odd spot for a team that made the playoffs last season. Although, making the playoffs came as more of an accident at 7-9. Rivera has a new QB now in Ryan Fitzpatrick, so that could certainly lead to some wild games right outside the nation’s capital. Last season, we already saw the impact that Rivera had on the defense, and that unit is only getting better. The NFC East certainly isn’t as competitive as it was in years past, making it an easier road for the WFT to win this division with a winning record.
