Welcome back to another week of trying to get an early advantage on the NFL Week 2 betting odds. In the first edition of this article, I went 2-1, with victories on the Arizona Cardinals (ML) and San Francisco 49ers (-7) while the Green Bay Packers were the lone loss.
For this installment of NFL Week 2 Picks, I have selected another three games that will be great to get in on before the rest of the masses do. In this space, all three of the teams to cover the spread are playing at home. Let’s take a look at who they are:
NFL Week 2 Picks
Las Vegas Raiders at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Raiders are coming off a miraculous overtime win on Monday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens. This was certainly a gift from God, as they had numerous chances to get it done, and literally used every single one of them.
The Steelers also pulled off an upset win as the underdog in Week 1 by defeating a talented Buffalo Bills team on the road. While Las Vegas was using all of its nine lives on Monday, Pittsburgh was relaxing back at home, where the game on Sunday is.
Now, the Raiders will have to travel across the country for a 1:00 p.m. EST game. Unfortunately, that’s three hours ahead of what they’re usually adjusted to. It also means Las Vegas will have a day or two less to prepare for this matchup. Since 2005, there have been 18 instances of a team from the Pacific Time Zone traveling on less than seven days rest into the Eastern Time Zone. In those games, the West Coast team is 5-12-1 (29.4%).
NFL Week 2 Pick: Steelers (-5.5)
New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers
Act especially fast on this one! Especially, if you’ve got access to DraftKings Sportsbook, where the spread is at +4 for the Panthers. Underdogs at home cover the spread in over 66% of games against divisional opponents. This is another case of that. The Panthers had a 16-0 lead over the Jets before letting them get back in at the end.
Meanwhile, the Saints absolutely steamrolled over the Packers in the opener, leaving everyone to believe that this will be the case for the rest of the season. I don’t see it that way, and this +4 spread on Carolina is just too good to pass up.
NFL Week 2 Pick: Panthers (+4)
Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers certainly didn’t play their best game in the season opener. They had four turnovers (three, if you take away the hail mary attempt at the end of the first half) and generally allowed the Cowboys to do what they wanted with the football. This week, Tampa Bay will face an Atlanta team that could not protect its own QB, Matt Ryan, in the opener against Philadelphia.
Of course, the Eagles aren’t expected to do much this season, and they absolutely boat raced the Falcons by 26. With the Bucs having an extra three days to prepare, look for them to put it on their opponents. Make sure you get this game at -13, or even -13.5, so you can get the win in the traditional 14-point sense.
