The NHL is back for the second night after a week-long hiatus! Last night’s three-game slate was a dandy, with two games going to overtime/shootout. Tonight, there are six games, but I’ll handle the following three: New Jersey Devils at Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers at Florida Panthers & Edmonton Oilers at St. Louis Blues.
In this article, I will provide my top three hockey picks tonight to make a maximum profit.
Our Favorite NHL Picks Today (12/29/21)
New Jersey Devils at Buffalo Sabres
NJD: -130
BUF: +120
NHL Pick: Devils ML (-130) + Over 6 Goals (-110)
The line changed a great deal on this game, as the Devils’ moneyline number shot up from -110 to -130 and the Sabres went from -110 to +120. Buffalo does have a ton of injuries, particularly to its defensemen. This is an area where New Jersey should be able to take advantage tonight.
While I do like the Devils, I do like the over on the total as well. It opened at 5.5 and quickly made the leap up there to 6. The Sabres will likely be able to pump in a few on their own as well.
New York Rangers at Florida Panthers
NYR: +160
FLA: -180
NHL Pick: Panthers -1.5 (+140)
The odds are speaking all the truth here, as the Panthers may be on the path to crushing the Rangers tonight. New York actually gave Florida its first loss of the season, a 4-3 thriller that almost saw the Panthers come back and win the game after trailing for most of it.
Florida is one of the better teams in the NHL and has a fantastic 14-3 record down there at home in South Florida. I feel like the Panthers remember that game at MSG back in early November. Look for them to take the lead early in this one and never look back.
Edmonton Oilers at St. Louis Blues
EDM: +120
STL: -135
NHL Pick: Oilers ML (+120)
The Oilers shook off an odd six-game losing streak with two straight wins before the brief hiatus in the NHL schedule. That break was probably not what they wanted since they felt like they were getting back on track. However, sometimes it can be good to rest ailing bodies and get them back in the right frame of mind.
Edmonton has two of the best players in the NHL in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, so this is a team that can get it going at a moment’s notice. The last time these two teams met, the Oilers won 5-4 in a blazing shootout.
